ELPAC testing K-2 & SBAC testing for grades 3rd-8th, April 29-May 16

Posted Date: 4/24/25 (5:06 PM)

Dear Wright ESD families,
California State Standardized testing is right around the corner. In the spring all students in California in grades 3rd-8th and grade 11 take tests in English Language Arts and Math.  All 5th, 8th and high school students take a Science Test as well. These state-wide assessments are known as Smarter Balanced Assessments.
Wright Elementary School District will be administering SBAC testing from April 29th-May 16th, 2025. Each school will have its individual testing calendar, as attached in this post.

Testing will start at 8:30 each morning.

The teachers have been busy preparing and reinforcing the skills necessary for students to demonstrate their learning. Even though these assessments are a snapshot—one single perspective – it is important that our students have every advantage to do their very best.

The English Language Proficiency Assessments for California (ELPAC) is a standardized test used to determine and monitor the English language proficiency of students whose primary language is not English. It assesses four domains: listening, speaking, reading, and writing. The ELPAC consists of two main parts: an initial assessment for newly enrolled students and a summative assessment for students who have been identified as English learners. These tests will take place one one-on-one during the same dates for students in grades K-2 who meet the criteria.

There are many ways you can help your child do their best.

The following guidelines can help set your student up for success:
1. Make sure your child is well-rested.
2. Make sure your child has a hearty breakfast to start the day
3. Ensure that your child is ON TIME to school.
4. Show positivity and confidence that you know your child will do his/her best.
5. Plan ahead to avoid conflicts on the morning of the tests.
6. Emphasize the importance of the test, but remember to build confidence, not anxiety.

If you have any questions, please get in touch with your child’s teacher or the school principal.

Thank you for your continued support and involvement in your child’s education!
